City’s annual Memorial Day ceremony to be held at Veterans Park
The City of Rome Memorial Day program will be held on Monday, May 28, at Veterans Park. Line up starts at 10:15 a.m. and the ceremony starts at 10:30.
The master of ceremonies will be former Common Council President John Mazzaferro. There will be the retiring and raising of colors, playing of the national anthem, memorial wreath presentation, reading of the names of the deceased, ringing of the bell and poppy presentation, a firing detail and the playing of “In Flanders Fields,” “Taps,” “Amazing Grace” and “God Bless America.”
The annual Memorial Day program typically draws hundreds of area veterans and supporters to the solemn event to honor and remember those who have died in service to the nation, according to event organizers.
A listing of local Memorial Day ceremonies at various communities throughout the area will be published in the May 26 edition of The Daily Sentinel.
