City to begin leaf collection Tuesday Homeowners in Inside District can rake leaves to curb for municipal pickup
Rome will begin its bulk leaf collection program on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The weekly green waste curbside collection and brush chipper collection services will end on Friday, Nov. 9. Containerized leaves and brush piles placed at the curb after Nov. 9 will be picked up by the bulk leaf collection crew.
The city will follow this schedule for bulk leaf collection:
- Monday’s green waste route
- Tuesday’s green waste route
- Wednesday’s green waste route
- Thursday’s green waste route
In the event that collection crews are needed for snow plowing during this period, leaf collection will cease and will pick up where it left off when weather permits. After completing its first round of collections, the city will make another pass through.
Leaves must be placed behind the curb and not in the street, as leaves raked into the street cause issues with traffic and with storm drainage. Leaves raked to the curb or in containers should have no stones or trash mixed in. Contractors are responsible for their own disposal, and leaves put to the curb by contractors will be left at the curb.
Examples of acceptable containers include biodegradable paper lawn and leaf bags or clean trash cans.
Unacceptable containers include plastic garbage bags, cardboard boxes, and city-issued garbage and recycling containers.
City residents who wish not to wait for leaf pickup can empty their containers at the City Yard Green Waste Transfer Station on Race Street. The hours of operation for disposal are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Residents must present a valid drivers license and contractors are, again, prohibited.
For more information on the city’s leaf collection, call the City Yard at 315-339-7778 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
