CENTRO opens doors to text message service
Centro bus riders now have access to next scheduled bus arrival times at any Centro bus stop via text message.
The SMS text service, available on any cell phone, follows Centro’s December launch of the GoCentroBus mobile app, which displays real-time transit information on smartphones or tablets.
“We’re making even further strides in our transit technology with the implementation of SMS,” said Centro Chief Executive Officer Rick Lee.
“Now it’s even easier for Centro riders who don’t have a smart device to plan trips and get where they need to simply by sending a text message.”
To receive bus arrival information, Centro riders need to text the word GOCENTROBUS (followed by a stop ID number) to the code 41411.
For those customers who are unsure of their stop number, they can look it up via the Bus Tracker page on Centro’s website.
Centro serves Rome, as well as the Utica area and Onondaga, Cayuga and Oswego counties.
“Many of our transit agency customers find that adding SMS to deliver bus arrival information provides information access to more riders, increases rider satisfaction, reduces support costs, and helps modernize transit systems,” said Dan Kamins, chief executive officer of TextMarks.
