‘Religion and Film’ talk Wednesday

Published Sep 9, 2017 at 4:00pm

The 2017-18 Hamilton College at The Other Side lecture series will open with a talk by S. Brent Rodriguez Plate, visiting associate professor of Religious Studies, who will present, “Religion and Film: Cinema and the Re-Creation of the World” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at The Other Side, 2011 Genesee St., Utica.

Cinema and religious life are intertwined, a fact demonstrated in horror films and science fiction mythologies, in the rituals of midnight screenings and film-inspired pilgrimages.

Professor Plate’s multi-media presentation offers insights into matters central to both cinema and religions practices. By looking at the ways films are produced and used, experts can shed new light on the ways religious myths, rituals, and symbols are produced and used, and vice versa. The lectures are free. Donations will be accepted. For more information call 315-735-4825.
