Event to raise funds for mother, children

A group of Rome-area pastors and church members, led by Rev. Robert Kelly, are working with community agencies and services to aid Virginia Puac-Morales and her children. The local “Concert for a Cause” chapter will assist by inviting the public to attend the “Pasta Dinner for a Cause” event on Friday, Oct. 12.

Held at the First Presbyterian Church of Rome, 108 W. Court St., doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for hor d’oeuvres and mingling. The sit-down pasta dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and will include bread, salad, pasta and sauce with meatballs, dessert and beverages. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available. Seating is limited to 100.

Throughout the course of the evening there will be updates on the family’s progress. raffle baskets, and live musical entertainment. Massage therapist Michelle Dolan will offer chair massages of the back, shoulders, neck and scalp from the comfort of a specially designed massage chair. A massage will cost $5 for five minutes and all proceeds go to the family.

In addition Heather Tucker from Usborne Books will be offering “Cards for a Cause” at the event with profits to the family.

A $15 donation per person is suggested but all monetary amounts are appreciated. Children are welcome and the donation for children’s portions is determined by the parents.

Marcial de Leon Aguilar, a Guatemalan farmhand, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers under an “administrative arrest warrant for immigration violations.” He has been sentenced to 8 months in Federal Prison and will be deported on his release. This event will raise funds for his wife Virginia and their five children.

Virginia seeks asylum in the United States because of ongoing violence in Guatemala.
