Children: Investment for the future
These commandments I give you today are to be set upon your hearts. Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road , when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:6,7
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
I have been involved in children’s ministry for quite some time. I find it fascinating how they absorb so much information and utilize it for their lives.
In ministry, it can be difficult to teach the word of God and for people to utilize it for God’s intent and for adults to grasp. Children, on the other hand, soak it up and accept the word of God for truth! It is important to impress the Christian values early and for them to understand the word of God at the earliest opportunity. They learn fast, absorb it, and share better than most adults!
I am raising three granddaughters now, and they love to read their Bibles, and listen to Christian radio. They understand their Bible and love God with all their hearts. Heaven is a place they long for and look forward to! They started their Christian education very young, and appreciate and love their church family.
My children went through the same Christian education and today serve in their church as well. This takes a lot of work and attention in a dark world that surrounds us. There are so many opinions and other teachings that present themselves to our children daily; school, play, college, work and so on.
The scripture says to impress the word upon their hearts when your sitting, walking, when you lie down and when you get up! Its a continual process even when your children go off to college and get married. They will always be your children! When they have to make decisions later on in life, it will be the training that you have impressed upon their hearts at an early age that will form and be utilized later!
2 Timothy 3:14-15 reminds us to continue in what we believe and have learned, and it will make you wise. Parents, grandparents, friends of children, the opportunities for training a child in the way he should go lie before you. Don’t take a child for granted; they are smart and can fully understand Gods word and His intent for their lives.
Matthew 18:6 gives us a warning; If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Wow, how about that for responsibility for our little ones. In other words, take it seriously, their future, and ours is in their hands.
