Grand jury indicts Utica College student accused of threats
The Utica College student accused of making multiple threats against the college is scheduled for arraignment in County Court next week.
Fahrudin Omerovic, 23, of Utica, was indicted Friday on two counts of making a terroristic threat, court officials said., adding that Omerovic is scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Friday before Judge Michael L. Dwyer for arraignment.
An indictment is a formal charge made against a person by a grand jury. It does not establish guilt or remove the presumption of innocence.
Authorities said Omerovic made multiple threats via telephone to the county 9-1-1 Center on March 5 and 6, threatening violence on the Utica College campus.
The threats on the first day caused the school to go into lockdown for several hours, leaving students and staff fearful, while law enforcement personnel searched the campus and evacuated students and faculty.
Authorities said there was no indication that Omerovic planned to carry out his threats.
