State Fair was quite a party
The 2018 version of the New York State Fair is history and by just about all accounts, it was quite a party.
Overall, the weather cooperated. (Always important in determining attendance). If anything, some days it was too hot but that didn’t appear to cut down on the huge crowds.
Officials say 1,279,010 people visited the fair. That’s a 10 percent increase.
With the regular folks were the politicians that are inevitable each year at the fair. Gov. Andrew Cuomo came twice, and his primary election opponent, the actress and activist Cynthia Nixon, also dropped by to shake hands and wave.
The big attendance increase caused some problems. The Syracuse Post-Standard reported the new $27 million parking lot had spaces that were too tight for most cars. A lot of people took the various shuttles.
There were reports of a few fights at various times, but when you jam that many people together, there’s bound to be a little chafing.
The vast majority of visitors, whether they came for the rides, the agricultural attractions, the concerts or the sausage sandwiches had a swell time. And that’s how it should be. And, oh, the butter sculpture was great too.
