A round of applause to all those young people, past and present, who not only show off their talents but learn new ways to express themselves in the Capitol Theatre Rising Stars program.

Winter Session classes are about to begin for the 10-week program, and youngsters have only until Friday to sign up. Tuition is $120. For more details, check out the Capitol webite at stars.

Janet Foote, professional actress, director and producer of Chatham Theatre Company, teaches the classes that offer an ambitious and wide-ranging number of challenges to young people interested in the performing arts.

These include character creation, portraying fictional characters; and for the younger students: Acting like their favorite animals. There are always new and entertaining learning experiences for the different age groups. Students develop their own creativity, self-confidence, reading comprehension and acting technique. These are skills that are not only helpful in the theater, but are handy in life activities such as college and job interviews, and dealing with peers.

Classes begin Saturday for those young people who not only enjoy acting but are looking ahead toward school productions, and even, who knows, professional careers ahead. Good luck to them all.
