Another sweet award

How sweet it is for the VVS agriculture program.

For the second time in five years, the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School Agriculture Program has been selected as New York State’s Outstanding Middle/Secondary School Agriculture Education Program.

This honor is bestowed by the New York State Association of Agriculture Educators.

All these titles and names are a mouthful but essentially they mean that VVS, especially because of its focus on maple products, runs a terrific ag program.

The VVS Agriculture and FFA program has earned a reputation, locally and statewide, as a premier leader in agriculture education.

The maple syrup program is outstanding, including operation of a commercial syrup production facility, along with marketing through community events like FFA’s Maple Weekend.

Congratulations to long-time agriculture education and FFA adviser Keith Schiebel for this thriving program. Schiebel is a recipient of the Hubbel Sugarmakers Award from the New York Maple Producers Association.

As association executive director Helen Thomas points out: “VVS is the standard for agriculture education in New York, especially when it comes to the maple industry.”
