William Frederick Tracy, Jr.

A gentle giant of a man who tried to bring a smile to everyone he encountered has passed away. William F. Tracy, Jr., “Bill”, 74, died January 13, 2017 in Florida. He was born in Rome on May 7, 1942, the son of late Dr. William F. and Jane L. Tracy. He graduated from Rome Free Academy and Hamilton College . After college graduation, he obtained his CLU certification and spent his entire 51 year career in the insurance industry. On June 12, 1965 he married Barbara Lewis, having a blessed union of 52 years and raising four children.

Bill was an avid golfer his entire life. He also was an avid huntsman and fisherman enjoying his time in the Adirondacks and Fish Creek Club. Bill served and volunteered in many organizations throughout his life, most notably the Rome Hospital Foundation, bringing to fruition the Emergency Room remodel.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; his four children and their families, Jennifer (Andre) Dunkirk; Kirsten (Paul) Morin; Landis (Kevin) Phillips; William Tracy III (Fatima); a sister, Roberta (Allen) Hye; two brothers, James Tracy and Robert (Helen)Tracy; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the Lee Valley Cemetery.
