Vernon J. Britton, Jr.

Vernon J. Britton, Jr., 83, of Taberg, NY, formerly of Williamstown went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 4, 2018 with his family by his side. He now joins the love of his life and soulmate, Jeannette Kelley Giles Britton. They were married November 14, 1986, she passed away January 3, 2003. Vern was born on July 8, 1934 in Rome, NY, a son of Vernon & Carrie Belle Raymond Britton and began his education at the Checkered House Corners School and graduated from Altmar-Parish High School, he then graduated from Syracuse University in 1956 with a BA in Psychology. He was a ROTC member and entered the U.S. Navy Officer Candidate School in 1956 as an Ensign and was discharged in 1969 as a Lt. Commander. He served two world tours aboard the U.S.S. Canberra and U.S.S. Mitscher.

Following his military service, Vernon worked as a Sky Marshall with U.S. Customs, taught mathematics in Syracuse area schools, worked as a dispatcher with Eastern Ambulance Service, sold real estate with Century 21 and retired as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, Syracuse, NY. Vern was also a member of the Abundant Life Community Church, Williamstown American Legion Post #1128, and the National Association of Letter Carriers and was a participant in the Relay for Life.

Surviving are two sisters, Joan Kuc, Taberg, NY, Carol & David Birmingham, Camden, NY, three step-children, Scott Giles, Camden, NY, James W. Giles, Jr., and Jennifer & Matt Folsom, all of Baldwinsville, NY, three grandchildren, Lorne & Elizabeth Giles, Trevor Folsom and Olivia Folsom, two great grandchildren, Ilario and Angelo Giles, several nieces and nephews and their families. Besides his parents and wife, Vern was predeceased by a half-brother, Edmund Robinson and a brother in law, Felix Kuc.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018 from the Abundant Life Community Church, Camden, NY under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral home, Inc. Interment Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown, NY. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home, 109 Main Street.
