Stanley (Stosh) Joseph Rutka

Stanley “Stosh” Rutka, 52, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away in his home unexpectedly on August 24, 2018, related to complications of Diabetes. He was born in Syracuse, NY, on December 17, 1965, the son of the late Stanley and Victoria Szur Rutka. He was a 1984 graduate of Westmoreland Central Schools.

Following Stan’s graduation from Suny Cortland, he became a certified geologist and relocated to Florida. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and walks on the beach. He was an avid Syracuse Orange and Buffalo Bills fan.

Stan, was a devote Christian and follower of Christ. He was an active member of Next Level Church of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Stan is survived by his best friend, and loyal canine companion of 9 years, Yukon, as well as his aunt and Godmother, Phyllis (Walter) Szewczyk of Lee Center; an uncle, William Page of Rome; two sisters, Sharon (David) Stottlar of Angola, NY and Mary-Kay (Jay) Maitland of Lee Center, NY; six nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Melissa, Sheila, Kathy, Paul, and Vicki; a great-niece and great-nephews; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, several aunts, uncles, a cousin and his beloved dog, Sam. 

Cremation services were handled by Gallaher American Funeral Home of Ft. Myers, Florida. Internment will take place on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rome, NY with the Reverend Robert L. Kelly officiating. Given Stan’s love for his dog and his church, his family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations and contributions can be made in Stan’s memory to Lee County Animal Services and Next Level Church, both located in Ft. Myers, Florida.
