Robert M. Kimmel

Robert M. Kimmel, 85, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Katherine Lutheran Home in Clinton. He was born in Rome on September 28, 1933, the son of the late James and Alberta (Walter) Kimmel. On June 14, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Arlene Chiacaferro, whom he adored and shared a blessed union of over 35 years. 

He served his country in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean War. 

Bob worked for many years as a tool and die maker at Rome Manufacturing, Revere Copper and Brass Co. and General Electric. 

He was a member of St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s Church, Rome Elks Lodge #96, Henry P. Smith Post #24 American Legion and Rome Country Club, where he was a member of the Young Men’s Business League and the GE League. 

He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Tyler of Rome and Kim and Jeffrey Rasak of San Diego, CA; a son, Kyle and Lisa Kimmel of Rome; two sisters, Kathleen and David Wolcott of McConnellsville and Sue and Nathaniel Jones of Texas; a brother, James and Ellen Kimmel of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Eric, Nicole, Robert, Alexandra, Fiona, Amanda, Isabela and Madison; four great-grandchildren; a special companion, Mary Ann Kimmel; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert D. Kimmel on April 18, 2018; and two grandchildren, Ashley Kimmel and Frederick Tyler III. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413.
