Philip Charles Bates

Philip Charles Bates, 72, of Rochester Hills, MI, passed away on November 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. Phil was born the second of six to Emerson and Marion (Connor) Bates in Rome, NY. After graduating from The College of the Holy Cross in 1968, Phil entered the Navy for three years before beginning a 37 and a half year-long career at Chrysler. 

Phil was known for his life-long love of of hockey, especially his beloved Boston Bruins. As a devout Catholic, Phil held his faith close to his heart and always aspired to lead a life of service for others. Phil enjoyed a good IPA beer, long walks with his granddog, and annual family gatherings in the Adirondacks. Family was always number one with Phil, and he showed this love and dedication in everything he did. 

Phil is remembered by his three children Brendan (Debbie) Bates, Courtney Bates, and Hillary Bates; his fiance for 17 years Celeste Beaver; his granddog Millie; and his siblings Paul (Connie) Bates, Ronald (Mary Ann) Bates, Joan and (Paul) Kotwica, Donald Bates, and the late Anne Bates.

Services were held in Rochester. Memorials may be made to Phil’s alma mater The College of the Holy Cross,, or Hospice of Michigan,
