Philip ‘Al’ Gigliotti

Philip “Al” Gigliotti, 88, of Turin Rd., Rome, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Bethany Gardens where he had been a resident since May 3, 2018.

He was born on November 22, 1929, in Ottawa, Canada, the son of Frank and Florence Ventura Gigliotti. Al was a graduate of Proctor High School and went on to attend Utica College.

On November 27, 1962, Al was united in marriage to Suzanne Traxell.

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War.

Al was employed as a consumer rep for Niagara Mohawk Power for thirty-six years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, a lifetime member of the Rome Elks, a member of the 25 year club of Niagara Mohawk, and spent many years with the Boys Scouts.

Al enjoyed spending his summers on the St. Lawrence River and Cape Vincent. He cherished the time he was able to spend at camp especially with his three beloved granddaughters.

Al’s family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Gardens for their wonderful care and compassion. 

Surviving besides his loving wife, Suzanne; are a daughter, Kathryn “Kathy” Bielby, of Utica; three granddaughters, Amanda (Nick) Tutino, Rachel Bielby, and Sarah Bielby, all of Utica; a sister-in-law, Marie Gigliotti, of Barneveld; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sally LaMacchia; a canine companion, Heidi; and several nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Rzepka, and a brother, Robert Gigliotti.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, beginning with a Prayer Service at 12:45 p.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Church at 1:30 p.m. where the Rev. Philip A. Hearn will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, 418 N. George St., Rome. Memorial contributions may be made in Phil’s memory to Susan G.
