Patricia A. (Gibbs) Sanborn

Patricia A. “Pat” Sanborn, 84, of Delray Dr., Rome, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Rome Memorial Hospital.

She was born on December 18, 1933, in Rome, the daughter of Ivan B. and Mae E. Moore Gibbs. She graduated from Rome Free Academy, Class of 1951.

On April 30, 1955, Pat was united in marriage to Walter G. Sanborn in the First United Methodist Church in Rome.

Over the years, Pat was employed by Griffiss Air Force Base, the Rome City School District as a substitute secretary, MVCC, and retired from Rome Memorial Hospital Business office and billing dept. after 15 years there.

Pat had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. She was predeceased by her beloved dogs, Willie, Sparkie, Whiskers, and Casey. She loved the ocean and had several favorite beaches. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the New York Mets and Syracuse University Basketball.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served on many committees including the Adult Bible Class. 

Surviving besides her loving husband of sixty-three years, Walter, are her children, Karen (John) Sullivan, of Winter Park, FL, Gary (Lynnda) Sanborn, of Iowa City, IA, and Amy (Christopher) Stohl, of Amherst, NY; six grandchildren, Eliza Sullivan, John Sullivan IV, Amy (Zachary) Slocum, Christine Sullivan, Elizabeth Stohl, and Kristen Stohl; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Sullivan; one sister-in-law, Reda Gibbs, of New Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by a brother, Barry Gibbs; a sister, Marilyn (Gerald) Griffin; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Kapps.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to the Rome Humane Society.
