Mildred L. (Shepard) Hubbard
Mildred L. “Millie” Hubbard, 93, of Rome, entered heaven and into the loving arms of her husband Frank on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Frank passed into heaven on February 7, 2018 and eight weeks apart was all they could bear; they are now together forever.
She was born in Marcy, NY on April 1, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Nancy (Avery) Shepard. On May 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Frank, a beautiful and blessed union of 69 years.
Upon completing her education, Millie’s early years of employment included General Cable Corporation and New York Telephone Company. Later she worked for Victory Market and eventually joining Oneida National Bank.
She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.
Millie loved the outdoors and watching the wildlife with Frank. They experienced it together; whether snowmobiling, canoeing or just sitting on their cabin porch at Rondaxe Lake taking in the call of the loons, watching an occasional otter or ducks swimming along the shoreline and loved viewing Slide Off Mountain in the distance...together they embraced the serenity, peace and beauty of the Adirondacks.
Always busy, Millie enjoyed playing cards with the girls, golfing at McConnellsville Golf Club, enjoying the women’s bowling league and gardening around her home. She loved to read, go for walks around her property picking flowers, gathering pinecones and other small beauties of nature to decorate her home and summer cabin. She appreciated the beauty of antique furniture and enjoyed her refinishing hobby as well as numerous other crafts. Her gathering apples from their orchard for apple pies was always a family favorite. She was a wonderful homemaker for her family.
Her love of family always sustained her and she was the warmest, most nurturing and devoted Mom, Gram and Great Gramma Millie. She was never one to miss an opportunity to spend time with “the kids” and Millie never stopped smiling when in the presence of a baby.
Millie was practical and instilled great lifelong values in her three girls. She was an incredible role model for all of us and we will continue to strive each day to carry on and pass those values through each of our families.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank on February 7, 2018. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Tom Stedman of Irwin, PA, Joan and Kim Ashton of Racine, WI and Susan and Dave Hrim of Rome; seven grandchildren, Megan, Jillian, Beau, Ryan, Paul, Brian, and Michael who predeceased her; seven great-grandchildren, David, Dalton, Natalia, Enzo, Eden, Addison and Shylie and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William “Bill” and Bruce Shepard and her sister Mary Shorey, predeceased her.
A service honoring Millie’s life will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery followed by a committal ceremony for Frank and Millie as they are buried together. There are no calling hours. We welcome family and friends to join us on May 11th.
We would like to thank Bethany Gardens staff of the 3rd floor, the Activities department, Nursing Administration and Therapy departments for every ones love and devotion for our Mom.
