Marguerite T. Sponaugle

Marguerite T. Sponaugle 87, of Floyd passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 14, 2018.

She was born on August 11, 1930 in Burgoo, West VA a daughter of the late Layton and Mabel (Haymond) Tharp. She was educated in the Buckhannon-Upshur schools. On August 29, 1952 she was united in marriage to Willard S. “Sarge” Sponaugle. A blessed union of over 64 years, Mr. Sponaugle died on December 25, 2016.

Marguerite was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Who devoted her life to caring for her family. She was an Air Force Wife for over 21 years. She loved her family and cherished the time that she spent with them, especially her adored children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Ava Dorfman Senior Center, and the South Rome Senior Center.

She loved sports she especially enjoyed football and the Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed the wilderness in the Stillwater area with her husband where they enjoyed camping, and fishing. She also loved to play Bingo and she adored her Canine Companion “Queenie”. 

She is survived by two daughters, Brenna (Leonard) Racquet and Evelena “Effie” Sponaugle; grandchildren Thaddeus “TJ” Racquet, Sarah (David) White, Leonard (Jenn) Racquet, Savannah Racquet, and Jason (Cori VanHatten) Evans; great-grandchildren Jacob, Lenny, Austin, Marcus, Cole, Elizabeth, Parker and Layton; two great-great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Jacob; three sisters-in-law Ruth Sutherland, Mamie Tenney, and Delphia Nickerson; She was predeceased by a son, Layton in 1980. 

The family would like to thank her caregivers Penny McClaine, Cathy Northrup, Nancy Stewart and Leea Catrombone for the compassionate and loving care given continually to Marguerite. 

Funeral services will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. Forty Main St. in Whitesboro. Interment will be in the spring in Townsend Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday prior to the service from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
