Malcolm Winsor Tanner Jr.

WEST LEYDEN — Malcolm (Mike) Winsor Tanner Jr. 84, of West Leyden, NY passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on November 26, 1933, in Rome, NY, the son of the late Malcolm Winsor Tanner Sr. and Rosanna Mathis. He graduated from St. Aloysius Academy of Rome, NY in 1951 and attended Morrisville State College. Malcolm served and completed an apprenticeship in Local Union No. 50 New York Bricklaying, Masonry & Plastering on August 25, 1961. Most of his life he operated his own company, M. Tanner and Sons, as he was an accomplished Mason. Although most of his life was labor intensive work, Malcolm valued his family and spending time with them. Malcolm has touched the lives of many. He enjoyed wood working, camping, and playing cards. Malcolm loved his fur babies. He was a codes enforcement officer for the Town of Lewis. He was an honorary member of Schmoker Memorial Fish and Game Club of West Leyden, NY. 

Surviving are his loving wife, Shirley I.; his first wife, Marlene Tanner and their 10 children, Danny Tanner, West Leyden, NY, Steven Tanner, predeceased, Charles and Kim Tanner, West Leyden, NY, Deborah Rocker and husband Alton, Garland, TX, Scott Tanner and Debbie, West Leyden, NY, Laurie Secor, West Leyden, NY, Sharon Cullings and husband Joseph, West Leyden, NY, Michael, predeceased, Brian Tanner and wife Stacy, West Leyden, NY, Tracy Tanner, Rome, NY and Jason Tanner and wife Christine, Rome, NY; step daughter, Pamela Kinstle and Stephen, Rome, NY; 33 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He also survived by brothers Paul and Alan (Jimmy) and sisters, Mary Ellen, Sheila and Diane. He was predeceased by brothers, David and Robert and sisters Faith and Patricia.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice for the wonderful care given to Malcolm.

Malcolm’s funeral will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post Street, Boonville. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Fish Creek.
