Lorna Eckel Cable, beloved daughter, aunt, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the age of 87 after a long courageous battle with cancer at her home surrounded by loved ones. She never backed down from a battle and held the disease at bay for 9 years after her original diagnosis. She was born on October 1, 1930 to Verne and Margaret Cook Eckel. She graduated from Camden Central High School in 1948 as an accomplished student athlete and remained active in the alumni community.

Lorna was the oldest of six siblings, James (Lois) Eckel, Aaron (Lila) Eckel, Marge (Russell) Hart (predeceased), Julia (Randall) Gafner and Ethel (Alan) Palmer, all residing in Upstate NY. She went on to have four children of her own, Christine, (Brian) Tietjen, Barton and Abe (Peg) Cable, Kim (Gary) Davis, all residing in Upstate NY, as well as six grandchildren, Todd (Marie) George of St. Louis, MO, Lance (Allison) George of Franklin Mass., Amanda (Tim) Williamson of Cicero, Brian, Brandon and Brooke, Upstate NY; and five great-grandchildren Tyler and Peyton of Franklin, Eleanor and Rex of St. Louis, and Bria Hope in Ilion.

Growing up on and around dairy farms, predominantly based in fish creek landing, her love of the outdoors and animals remained throughout her life and she shared this passion with her family. She was the first one in the creek every year and was always up for a new adventure. She held numerous jobs throughout her entire life into her 80’s. Her jobs started at a very young age around the farm and later included driving a cattle truck, land surveying, a rural postal worker, and a NYS thruway employee for over twenty years to name just a few.

Lorna was the family historian and an avid sports fan spending hours working and researching genealogy. When she wasn’t watching her grandkids and great-grandkids in their sporting events she was watching the Yankees, the Orange and NASCAR.

A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2018. In lieu of flowers please make donations in honor of Lorna to Hospice Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road New Hartford, NY 13413; Fish Creek Landing Cemetery P.O.
