James E. Smith
BLOSSVALE — James E. Smith, 66, of Saltzman Road, passed away at home unexpectedly on October 13, 2017 in his sleep as he wished. He was born on August 3, 1951 in Rome, New York, a son of Ralph S. and Carrie Mae Orris Smith. Jim was a 1970 National Honor Society graduate of Camden Central High School. On August 28, 1976 he was united in marriage to the former June A. Filkins at the Hillsboro Baptist Church by the late Rev. George M. Pattington. He was previously employed by Laribee Wire and Spargo Wire, for the last 19 years Jim worked at ConMed, New Hartford, New York. Jim was a 40 year life member of the McConnellsville Volunteer Fire Department.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, June A. Smith; two sisters, Kay Johnson, Florence, NY, and Jean Smith, Vienna, NY; three brothers, Thomas and Marlene Smith, Florence NY, Robert E. Smith, Rome, NY, and Ralph L. Smith, Oneida, NY; three nephews, Scott Johnson, Eric Smith and Shaun Smith-Howard; two nieces, Sonja Rathsack, Appleton, WI, and Tonya Tucker, Westdale, NY; six great-nieces and one great-nephew. He leaves behind many close friends including Dave Mitchell, Ken Duda, Ron and Tammy Lagasse, and Amanda Hepworth, as well as all the members of the fire department friends, and neighbors. He will be missed by his two special girls, Candy Cane and Pennies, his canine companions who could not wait for him to return from work, greeting him at the door. Jim was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean Smith in 1998; and a niece Stacey Ann Smith in 2004.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main St., Camden. Interment McConnellsville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, P. O.
