Jack (John) C. Huther

ORISKANY — Jack (John) C. Huther 80, of Oriskany, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. 

He was born on December 5, 1937 in Utica a son of the late Charles and Marjorie (Kent) Huther. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On November 24, 1962 at St. Johns Church in New Hartford he was united in marriage to Cecelia “Pat” Cameron, a blessed union of over 55 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. 

Jack was employed with the United States Postal Service retiring in 1992 after 25 years of dedicated service. Prior to working for the post office he was employed with PJ Green in Utica. 

He was a former member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Oriskany. He was a member of the Oriskany Fire Dept. for over 42 years, and a 36 year member and former Commander of the Oriskany American Legion Post 1448. He also was a lifetime member of the Stanwix Veterans & Men’s Club and the Oriskany Hill Golf Club. He was a past Oneida County American Legion Commander and ran the Oneida County & 5th District American Legion Baseball program for many years. 

Jack was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time that he spent with his family. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was known by his family and friends as “Packer Jack”. He loved golfing with his family and friends at Oriskany Hills Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling, slow pitch softball and he refereed High school Basketball 

He is survived by his wife Cecelia “Pat” of Oriskany; his children, daughter, Major General Peggy Combs and her husband Brad of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter, Jackie Torosian of Nashville, TN, son, John “Hoodoo” Huther of Whitesboro, and daughter, Maryann Busch of Oriskany. He leaves six grandchildren, Christopher Lambert and his wife Kaylyn, Brandon Combs, Erica Vincent and her husband Joe, Amber Huther, Marissa Busch and Cameron Busch. He leaves a great-grandson, Ryston Lambert; a brother Russell Huther and his wife Roseanna; and a niece Cathy Cashel; he also leaves his special friends, Pat and Marilyn McGowan. He was predeceased by his sister Carol Hock, and nephew Russ Huther. 

The family wishes to sincerely thank the Cardiac Thoracic Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion that was given to Jack during his stay there. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. Forty Main St. Whitesboro with the Rev. Arthur Krawczenko officiating. Family and friends are invited to call three hours prior to the service from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Oriskany Fire Dept. will have a service at 5 p.m. and the Oriskany American Legion Post 1448 will have a service immediately following the Fire Dept.
