Isabelle Mae (Converse) Walters
Isabelle Mae Walters, age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2018, with her loving family at her side.
She was born October 17, 1928, in Rome, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Florence Bronson Converse, and educated in Rome schools. Isabelle was united in marriage to Raymond C. Walters, Sr., on August 8, 1947, in Rome; he died March 25, 2004. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women group.
Isabelle’s life revolved around her family and her church. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great mother.
Isabelle is survived by three daughters and a son in law, Sandra Barnard and Susan Walters, both of Rome, and Lenora and Skip Merithew of Marcy; two sons and daughters in law, Raymond Jr., and Cheryl Walters of Rome and James and Diane Walters of Montana; a brother, Richard Converse; grandchildren, Amy and Kevin Fiore, Raymond III and Nikki Walters, Tracy and Brian Gualtieri, Christina Merithew and Nicole Nitzbon; great grandchildren, Jonah Allen, Claire Kondella, Logan Walters, Madeline Allen, Elizabeth Gualtieri, Zoey Baird, Darci Baird, Lucas Allen, Cailyn Armstrong, Andrianna Walters and Dominic Gualtieri; a special sister in law, Mabel Converse; and special niece, Lorrie Lewin. She was predeceased by four sisters, Thelma Simon, Betty Berndt, Myrtie Stellwagon and Virginia Worden and nine brothers, Jack, George, Chet, Leonard, Raymond, Leo, Carl, Lawrence and Ted, and a son in law William Barnard.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the 5th Floor staff of Bethany Gardens for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Isabelle during her residency.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
