Helen P. Bette South

BOONVILLE — Helen P. South, 93, affectionately known as “Bette” and widow of Albert, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.  

Bette was born in Burlington, Vermont, on October 13, 1924, a daughter of Richard Allen and Nancy E. Tanner Parks. She grew up in Plattsburg, where she graduated from high school. On June 29, 1947, Bette was united in marriage with Albert South, in Plattsburg, NY. In 1951, the couple moved to Boonville, settling at her present home on Main St. in 1953. For many years Bette was employed as a bookkeeper for Stanley Ohm Oil Company, Boonville. Mr. South, a WWII Veteran and retired Boonville Central School, elementary teacher and principal, passed away on July 16, 1996.

Bette always enjoyed county fairs; for several years she and her husband, Al, enjoyed serving as co-treasurers of the Boonville-Oneida County Fair. Mrs. South was an avid reader. 

Bette is survived by several close friends in Boonville.

In keeping with her wishes, her funeral service and interment in Boonville Cemetery will be private and there are no calling hours.
