Gene S. Tamburino

Gene S. Tamburino, 87, of Rome passed away peacefully on
Monday January 2, 2017 at his daughter’s home. He was born in Rome, NY on January 28, 1929; son of the late Gabriel and Mary Porto Tamburino, Gene attended Rome schools and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1949. Gene was a mechanic and owned and operated various service stations in the city of Rome. He was best known for owning and operating Skate-A-While Roller Skating Rink, providing fun and entertainment for families in the Rome and surrounding areas since 1977. Besides his love of roller skating, Gene was a classic car enthusiast and an avid Nascar follower. 

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Earl Harris of Rome; two grandchildren, Christopher Harris and his wife Erica of Menifee, California and Natalie Harris of Rome. Also surviving
are one brother Joseph Tamburino of Rome; and two sisters, Carmella Tagliaferri and Hilda Vaccaro both of Rome; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Karen and her husband Walt Mote, and a special nephew and his wife Gabe and Nancy Vaccaro; two special great-nephews Zachary Vaccaro and Raymond Seymour. Gene also leaves behind his special “fur buddies” Hoffman and Katie. He was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony, Louis and Samuel Tamburino; and three sisters, Mary DePasquale, Florence DeBonzo, and Lena Colangelo.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Gene’s caregivers Aiden and Cathy. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday,
January 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.  

The family will receive friends at St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. prior to his Funeral Mass. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd.
