Faith Merrill, 84, of Rome, passed away on February 13, 2018, after a brief illness, at Life Care Center of Evergreen, Evergreen, Colorado.
Faith was the fourth child of Rev. Joseph and Emma DeRogatis, born on Staten Island, NY on January 5, 1934. A committed lifelong Presbyterian, Mrs. Merrill was an accomplished church organist and choir member. She served for 34 years as a public school teacher, serving most recently as a kindergarten teacher at Lake Delta Elementary and then Ridge Mills Elementary Schools.
Mrs. Merrill attended New York City Public Schools and graduated from Bloomfield College, New Jersey, with a degree in elementary education. She received a Master’s Degree in Education from the State University of New York at Oswego.
Faith Merrill moved to Rome with her family in 1958. She was a longtime and devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Rome.
She was predeceased by her sisters Juliette and Edith, and brother David.
She is survived by her four children, Kimberley Jordan of Evergreen, CO; David of Missoula, MT; Jonathan of Utica, NY; and Claudia Miettunen of Ithaca, NY. She had seven grandchildren, Timothy Jordan of Littleton, CO; Matthew Jordan of Evergreen, CO; Allison Miettunen of Austin, TX; Juliette and Robbie Miettunen of Ithaca, NY; and Cora and Elon Merrill of Missoula, MT; and one great-grandchild, Harper Mae Jordan of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by sons-in-law Jeffrey Jordan and Robert Miettunen; daughter-in-law Summer Nelson; and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 108 West Court Street, Rome at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018. She will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Lee. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the scholarship fund of First Presbyterian Church, 108 West Court Street, Rome, NY 13440.
