Dennis L. Bruce passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis died at his home in Goose Creek, South Carolina, at the age of 66.

Born March 30, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia, he was the son of Roscoe L. Bruce and the late Joan Graci. Dennis grew up in the Rome/Utica area and graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1970. Dennis enjoyed a 38-year career in the automotive business, owning and operating multiple dealerships throughout Central New York. He settled at Cortland Chrysler Dodge Jeep in 1991, where he became General Manager and then part owner until his retirement in 2017. Dennis resided and raised his family in Homer, NY for more than 25 years, before retiring with his wife, Nancy in South Carolina.

Dennis was an avid sports fan and participant. He took great pride in coaching multiple sports teams and being involved with the close-knit Homer community. Over the years, Dennis coached his kids and many others in basketball, football, softball and baseball. He also enjoyed a day on the golf course, and if he were here today, he might boast about his two hole-in-ones - both coming on the third hole at Rome Country Club. He loved watching sports, especially cheering on the Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Nancy (Ettinger); daughters Stacey Manderville of Summerville, SC, Katie Nacy (Jon) of Goose Creek, SC; his sons Brian Bruce (Cecilia) of Orlando, FL, and Michael Bruce (Lindsay) of Martinsburg, WV. Dennis was also blessed with four grandchildren, Brianna, Brayden, Sloane and Cameran. He is also survived by siblings Dave, Bill, Michelle and Michael; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

A memorial service was held on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services in Ladson, SC. In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been set up for donations to support the Homer Recreation Department to carry on Dennis’ passion for sports. Donations can be made to Nancy Bruce, memo: Dennis Bruce Memorial and sent to 401 Watershed Drive, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
