Delma F. (Frelick) Burgess

Delma F. Burgess, age 89, proud resident of Jenner’s Pond in West Grove, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

Delma was born in Schenectady, NY on December 28, 1927, and was the daughter of the late H. Victor Frelick and Ruth (Scott) Frelick. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, married John S. Burgess, and dedicated herself to raising her three children. She also worked as a substitute teacher and a travel agent. Delma and John raised their family in Rome, NY, and also lived in the Netherlands for 5 years before eventually retiring to Delaware.

Active in her communities, Delma was a longtime member of the New Ark United Church of Christ, the Newark Senior Center, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood – an international women’s organization that provides educational opportunities for female students worldwide. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and dear friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Delma was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Burgess; brother, Robert Frelick; and sister, Mary Tripp. She is survived by her children, Leslie Burgess (Serena), Michael Burgess (Marie), and Robert Burgess (Marsha); brothers, Douglas Frelick (Jen) and J. Paul Frelick (Ellenor); sister-in-law, Jane Frelick; grandsons, Christopher, Peter, and Zachary; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2017, at New Ark United Church of Christ, 300 E. Main St., Newark, DE, 19711.
