C. Pauline Bryant
C. Pauline Bryant, 96, of McConnellsville, NY passed away peacefully with her beloved family close by on Mother’s Day, May 14. 2017.
She was born on Christmas Eve, 1920 to Frederick R. and Bertha A. Helbock of Williamstown, NY, and graduated from Williamstown High School. In 1941 she received a Bachelor of Science and Registered Nursing degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, completing the five year program in just four years.
She became a Floor Supervising Nurse at Syracuse Memorial Hospital and later at the old Oneida Hospital and remained devoted and active in her profession in many volunteer capacities through much of her life. She also continued to be a close part of the family’s G.W. Bryant Core Sands business.
On Sept. 18, 1943 she was married to John J. (Jack) Bryant of McConnellsville in St. Patrick’s Church, Williamstown. Mr. Bryant died in 1988.
Pauline is survived by her beloved children, Timothy P. and Candace A. Bryant, McConnellsville, nephew and wife, Bryant J. (Jerry) and Susan Farnsworth, Camden, and their four children, Josh, Sarah, John and Katie, for whom she was a cherished second grandmother. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert P. and Ida Helbock of Seattle.
A devoted and beloved wife and mother, a dedicated nurse and caring friend to all, Pauline was a close part of the McConnellsville community for over seventy years. She served as a Civil Defense and American Red Cross Nurse, a founding board member of the Camden Medical Center, longtime board member of the Rome-Oneida Tri-Valley YMCA, member of the Altar Rosary Society and Religious Instruction teacher of St. John the Evangelist Church, Camden, where she was a life-long communicant, a Girl Scout leader and a Camden Clothing Connection volunteer.
She was a life-time member of the McConnellsville Golf Club and remained an avid and competitive player in the ladies’ 18 hole group well into her eighth decade. With her husband and children she had been a capable yachtswoman and enjoyed many years cruising the St. Lawrence and beyond out of Alexandria Bay.
Pauline leaves a legacy not only of love, friendship, service and play but of wonderful spirit and good humor which will be kept close by all who knew her. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Camden, Thursday, May 18 at 11:00 am under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc. Private interment St. John’s Cemetery, Camden, NY.
