Betty Buicko Weber, 82, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her loving family.

A private service will be held in her home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Betty’s honor to the Texas Bluebonnet Scleroderma Foundation at Scleroderma.org.

Betty was born Oct. 16, 1935 in upstate New York. She was the only child of Andrew T. “Bill” Buicko and Pauline Damon Buicko. She grew up in NYC and attended Hunter College High School, followed by Hobart and William Smith College where she double-majored in Mathematics and Science. She married John Weber and they had 3 children together. During their marriage they traveled extensively and moved often for John’s career with American Airlines. With each move Betty quickly created a “home”, always shepherding her kids through their changing environment. Later she worked in the insurance industry eventually ending her career as P&C Chief for the State of Maryland Insurance Commission while taking care of her aging parents until their death. She was an amazing daughter, mother and a beloved “GiGi” to her grandkids and great-grandkids. She became a friend to everyone that she met, including many of her children’s friends, serving as a surrogate mother to too many to name. She loved nothing more than being in the Mexican Caribbean with sand between her toes and surrounded by her family and her closest friends, Stephanie and the Rowdy Girls.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Cate Weber (Tammy Griswold), Scott Weber (Alexan) and Gretchen Liles (Carl); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and Polly, her cat.
