Anna Mae W. Parsons

Anna Mae W. Parsons, 108, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Bethany Gardens.

She was born on June 5, 1908 in Wales a daughter of the late James and Annie Parry Wright. Anna Mae moved to the United States when she was a child and settled in Rome. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1927.

Following high school and before becoming a loving wife and mother, she was employed at the Rome Women’s Club as their secretary. On April 30, 1934 in Utica, Anna Mae was united in marriage to John Parsons, a blessed union of almost 56 years until his passing which occurred on November 24, 1990. Anna Mae was a member of the First Baptist Church, Red Hook Home Bureau, and Rome Grange. She was also a 4H leader for almost 30 years and volunteered at the Rome Historical Society.

Anna Mae is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Brenda Reid of Rome, Lorna and Michael Wooldridge of Rome, Marialice and Richard Leonard of FL, Sally and Paul Andrae of TX; a son, John “Jack” Parsons and Mary Ann of Rome; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Bowers, granddaughter, Linda Lee Parsons, two sons-in-law, Raymond Bowers and Bernard Reid, and a brother, James Wright.

Mrs. Parsons’ graveside service will be held for the family in Rome Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rome Historical Society or a charity of one’s choice.
