Ann S. (Swerdan) Larkin

Ann Swerdan Larkin, 94, of Lee Center, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Bethany Gardens. She was born in Lee Center on February 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Harry and Anastasia Pawluk Swerdan. She was educated in Rome schools and started working at an early age. On September 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Lawrence D. Larkin in St. Patrick’s Church in Taberg. He passed away on May 5, 1980.

Ann worked several jobs including: waitress and housekeeper at the Seventh Lake House, cook and nanny for a Colgate University Professor in Hamilton, NY, waitress at Candyland and Eddie’s Paramount Diner, machinist at Rome Cable during World War II, and running the canteen at Olney’s Canning Factory, but her most important job was raising her family. Although not said in many words she showed her love by always being there for you in your time of need. 

She is survived by: two daughters, Debora Larkin of Germantown, TN, and Lauren (Randy) Russell of Lee Center; two sons, Lawrence D. (JoAnn) Larkin Jr. of Westmoreland and Michael (Nancy Jane) Larkin of Taberg; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Swerdan of Lee Center; brother-in-law, Terrence Larkin of Forestport; son-in-law, Tony Barone of Florida; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Barone of Georgia, Nicholas (Yourim) Barone of South Korea, Jill (Matt) Parker of Rome, Jamie Larkin of Westmoreland, Danielle Larkin of Tampa, FL, Michael (Denise) Horn of Tonawanda, NY, Lanora (Michael) Duel of Binghamton, and Thadeous Larkin of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Miranda, and Leonardo Barone, Natalie and Lucas Parker, Alyssa King, and Aurora and Sylvia Duell; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Barone; four sisters, Mary Ruddy, Pauline Kachaylo, Rose Swerdan, and Katherine Swerdan; and a brother, Charles Swerdan. 

Ann’s family would like to the express their gratitude to the staffs at both the Terrance at Woodland and Bethany Gardens for their wonderful care. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8th at 7:00PM at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service from 4-7:00PM.
