The group derives its name from the song "Walking on the Moon" by The Police.

The band has released two albums, "I Want! I Want!" (2010) and "Walk the Moon" (2012). The band’s single, "Anna Sun", peaked at #10 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2012.

SPIN Magazine has described it as a "poppy, art-rock quartet." It was also deemed aNylon Magazine Band Crush for its "swirly pop beats, infectious guitar riffs, and loud, sing-a-long choruses."
