‘Delicate Balance’ opens April 5

UTICA — Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize winning Drama, "A Delicate Balance" will be performed at the Players of Utica, 1108 State St., April 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13.

Wealthy middle-aged couple, Agnes and Tobias, along with their permanent houseguest, Agnes’ witty but alcoholic sister Claire, have their complacency shattered when longtime friends appear at their doorstep claiming that an unnamed terror has forced them from their own home. Soon to follow Agnes and Tobias’ bitter 36-year-old daughter Julia, who returns home after the collapse of her fourth marriage. These events bring a firestorm of doubt and recrimination upsetting the "delicate balance" of the household.

The cast is: Agnes, played by Rayna Schneider; Tobias - Stephen Wagner; Claire ­ Zenna Monaghan; Julia ­ Catherine Gudaitis; Edna ­ Leslie Reilly; and Harry ­ Jeff Hartz.

The show is directed by Marilee Ensign, the stage manager is Bob Kaplan and set design is by Marilee Ensign and Ron Medici.

A Delicate Balance premiered in 1966 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1967, the first of three he received for his work.
