in Syracuse Friday
SYRACUSE — The Laurentian Singers of St. Lawrence University, Canton, will present a free concert at Most Holy Rosary Parish (corner of Bellevue and Roberts Avenues), Friday at 8 p.m. to kick off the group’s spring break tour to Washington DC.
Stops along the way include Syracuse, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. Three Laurentian Singers hail from the Syracuse area: Amy Callahan ’13, a CBA graduate, Matthew Dudley ’14 and Hannah Chanatry ’15 both from Cazenovia.
Director Barry Torres has long been associated with Syracuse as the founding and current music director of Schola Cantorum on Syracuse. He is Syracuse University alumnus.
The Laurentian Singers, a select coeducational choir of 24 undergraduate singers, continues its 67-year tradition. The group has toured in Puerto Rico, France, New York and Boston, New Orleans and Central Europe.
Torres has chosen a mix of American, European and African-based music. The program will feature Laurentian Singers as instrumentalists playing violin, fiddle, guitar, African percussion and ukelele.
