NAACP to hold pair of events

The Rome Branch NAACP will hold two events in February for Black History Month.

The first will be a general membership meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rome Art & Community Center, 308 W. Bloomfield St. The guest speaker will be Rome City School District Superintendent Jeffrey P. Simons. He will be discussing what the district is doing for minority students. The public is invited.

At 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at Jervis Public Library, 613 N. Washington St., the group will present its 16th annual Black History Month Story Time event in conjunction with the library and the Spangle Basketball Program. Children of pre-school and elementary school age are invited, and treats and gifts will be given out. Children will hear stories written by black authors and have a chance to learn what the library has to offer.
