Mills completes sweep of Wings

The Rome Catholic boys basketball squad dropped its third straight road game as the Redwings fell, 61-46, to Center State Conference Division IV rival New York Mills on Wednesday night.

Rome, which is 8-6 overall and 4-5 in the league, saw Connor Marchione and Dave Sblendorio each finished with 13 points.

Eli Smalls added seven points and Caleb Blair finished with six points.

New York Mills improved to 8-0 in the league and 13-1 overall under the direction former Rome Catholic coach and athletic director Mike Adey.

The Marauders were guided by Cody Mariotti’s 19 points as DJ Kirillko netted 18 points.

Mills took both games of the home-and-home series against Rome this season after they defeated the Redwings, 80-57, earlier this season.

Rome will return home on Friday night to host Oriskany starting at 7:30 p.m. during a CSC Division IV meeting.

Old Forge beats Remsen

In another CSC Division IV game, Old Forge got its first victory of the season by scoring a 61-51 win over host Remsen.

Adam McDonald found the bottom of the net for 14 points to lead Remsen, as Sabastian Bullard added 10 points, and Billy Plete finished with nine points as the Rams fell to 1-9 in the league and 3-12 overall this season.

Old Forge, 1-7 in the league and 1-9 overall, was led by Sam Waterbury’s 20 points.

Remsen goes to Rome Catholic on Monday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
