AAU Basketball tryouts, registration set

Rome Select Youth Boys AAU Basketball will be holding tryouts and returning player registration Thursday and Friday at the Salvation Army gym, 402 W. Dominick St.

Thursday’s sessions are set for 5 p.m. for fifth-graders and 6 p.m. for sixth-graders. Friday’s sessions are set for 5 p.m. for seventh-graders and 6 p.m. for eighth-graders.

The program is aimed for advanced players. Practices will be held two or three times per weeks, and most teams will play at least five tournaments. There will be a $50 registration fee due for all returning players, and there will also be $10 tryout fee for all new players. Checks should be made out to: Rome Select Basketball.

Tri-Valley Playaz sign ups scheduled

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley has set registration and tryout dates for the Tri-Valley Playaz Boys AAU Basketball Program.

Tryouts and registration will be held next Monday from 4:30-6 p.m. for fifth- and sixth-grade boys and 6-7:30 p.m. for seventh- and eighth-grade boys at the Rome YMCA, 301 W. Bloomfield St. There will also be tryouts Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 for fifth- and sixth-grade boys at Strough Junior High School from 6-7:30 p.m. and for seventh- and eighth-grade boys from 7:30-9 p.m. both days. Tryouts for ninth-, 10th- and 11th-graders will be held Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 at Strough from 6-7:30 p.m. for ninth-graders and 7:30-9 p.m. for 10th- and 11th-grade boys on both days.

A $20 registration and tryout fee is due the day of tryouts, and a parent or guardian must also be present to sign the registration and waiver release form. The forms can also be signed in advance by picking up a form at the Rome YMCA or online at: (click on programs and tab down to Tri-Valley Playaz AAU). Those who register the day of the tryouts and registration can pay by cash or by a check made payable to the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley.

Volunteers are also being sought to assist with the program.

The Tri-Valley AAU Organization is under the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley Association, which has branches in Oneida and Rome and services youth and families in surrounding communities.
