Trooper accused of drunk driving

TOWN OF MARCY — A state police investigator has been charged with drunken driving after his motor vehicle crashed along Trenton Road early Saturday morning.

Authorities said Richard A. Mody, 36, of Utica, was off-duty at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 15 when he lost control of his personal 1998 Trans Am while northbound on Trenton Road near Burton Manor. Mody is assigned to the Turning Stone Casino in Verona.

Authorities said Mody’s car struck a guardrail off the east shoulder and then a culvert, spinning several times before finally coming to rest. Mody suffered internal injuries in the crash, and is in good condition at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Mody has been charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right, troopers said. Mody is a 15-year veteran of the state police. He has been suspended without pay following the crash.

The incident will likely undergo an internal review. According to the website www.seethroughny.net, Mody’s rate of pay in 2011 was $94,335, and he earned $116,178.
