Oriskany schools hold hearing on bullying
ORISKANY — A public hearing on the state’s new anti-bullying measures including the Dignity for All Students Act and a Code of Conduct is on the Oriskany Board of Education’s agenda today at 7 p.m. at the district office, 1313 Utica St.
Among other items before the board will be first readings of a revised code of conduct policy, plus a revised equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policy.
The board also will consider appointing two "Dignity Act coordinators," N.A. Walbran Elementary School Principal Jason Evangelist and Oriskany Junior-Senior High School Principal F. Daniel Myers.
The state’s Dignity for All Students Act aims to provide students with school environments free of discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying.
Bullying concerns have received increased attention nationally, including the impact of various social media like texting and Facebook.
Also on the agenda are approvals of Annual Professional Performance Review Plans for teachers and principals. The state has revised the APPR standards, including portions that are to be determined by individual school districts.
