Kowboy Kiner, AKA Jerry Kiner, rode off into eternal retirement August 12 at 3:21 p.m. with his wife and family by his side.
Jerry was born in South Dakota and moved to New York when he was 8. He graduated from VVS High School and shortly after entered the US Navy. He was a Vietnam Vet. Prior to his retirement he worked as a farm equipment salesman and later became a tractor trailer driver.
He married Michelle Kitka November 10, 1990. He was a handsome and devoted husband who enjoyed traveling with his wife especially to Montana. Jerry was an avid horsemen. His great love for them was reflected by his ability to ride and train. He was also a marksman and enjoyed motorcycle riding.
Jerry was past president of the Delta Lake Yacht Club and Verona Mills Fish and Game Club. He was a member of the VFW (it’s 5:05) and a savvy card player. He was a terrific father, honest friend, had a soft spot for children, and was true to his family and the people he loved. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Jerry leaves behind his wife; his three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Scott and Irene Kiner, Berton and Donna Kiner, and Ryan Kikta (US Navy); one daughter, Sue Adamik; four grandchildren, Kevin (US Marine) and Kyle (US Navy) Kiner, and Cole and Rowan Kikta; and his three sisters, Ann Simiele, Mary Champney, and Linda McNamara.
Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals, Inc., 210 W. Court Street, Rome. Relatives and friends may call at the Home For Funerals, Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Inc.
