VERNON — The pacer Maxnifizent played the part while recording a 1:52.4 win during Friday night’s sixth race at Vernon Downs.
With Jimmy Whittemore at the controls, Maxnifizent turned in a seamless, front-striding victory for the second win in 11 starts for the 3-year-old.
The 2-year-old colt trotter Shaolin Master posted her first career victory in the third event as LeWayne Miller drove for trainer Erv Miller and the Tanah Merah Farms in a time of 1:57.3.
Leading Downs driver Rick Plano and his son, Luke, captured five of Friday’s 12 races. Rick Plano tied Chris Lems at eight for the season’s high in triples, while Luke Plano logged his third double of the meet. Rick Plano now has 5,995 career wins.
Downs action resumes tonight with a 12-race card beginning at 6:55.
