Good times in Rome
Rousing music, colorful flags and melodious drums.
Followed by rides, games, fun and good cheer.
The Rome area had another great, if hot and sometimes rainy, weekend thanks to the hard work of those folks who organize and oversee the Drums Along the Mohawk pageant and Rome Rotary Club’s Canalfest.
Thursday night, Madison Scouts from Wisconsin took top honors as enthusiastic spectators jamming Rome Free Academy stadium applauded the 34th annual competition. Young musicians from across the country were met with standing ovations, whistles and hollers for their drum corps expertise.
Events like these can’t move forward without the help of groups that displayed our hospitality by hosting members and dishing up good food.
In Bellamy Harbor Park, there were different, if just as enjoyable, types of entertainment for Rotary’s 10th annual Canalfest, with some expanded events and old favorites. and fireworks. Proceeds benefit Rotary benevolent projects.
Last week, our Point of Pride focused on the Honor America Days parade and Syracuse Symphony Concert. Matched with the Drums pageant and Canalfest, we had some great occasions for good times in Rome.
