Deadline extended for women’s city tourney

The entry date for the City of Rome Women’s Golf Tournament has been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 15.

The tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19.

A junior ladies division will be added to this year’s event.

Rome bocce teams second and third

A pair of Rome bocce teams took second and third places respectively during the annual Paul Vitagliano Memorial Coed Bocce Tournament held at the Toccolana Club on Saturday.

The Rome Toccolana Club No. 1 squad took second and the team was comprised of Roger and Irene Panara, Peter and Dianna Cianfrocco, while the Rome team, The Mob Squad, finished in third place with the team members Tino Emmanuele, Cheryl Iacone, and Peter and Christine Russo.

Breakfast Club team from Mechanicville made up of Chris Shiffert, Beth Shiffert, Tom Izzo, and Mary Jo Chase took first place.

The double-elimination tourney honored Vitagliano, who was a longtime member of the club and organizer of many tournaments locally and throughout the Northeast area.

Up next is the Super Men’s Singles Tournament to be held at the Toccolana Club on Saturday, Aug. 18. Deadline for entries is Tuesday, Aug. 14, and applications are available at the club.
