Utica-Rome Speedway loses another event to Mother Nature

VERNON — A mid-morning thunderstorm coupled with a forecast for more severe weather later in the day led to the decision of Utica-Rome Speedway officials to cancel Sunday’s racing program.

Weather-permitting, racing action will resume this Sunday with a regular show of Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks plus the annual New York State Stock Car Association Safety Night.

During the program, four individuals who have made contributions to motorsports at Utica-Rome Speedway and beyond will be inducted into the NYSSCA Hall of Fame.

Engine builder Milt Johnson, driver/car owner Tom Williams, Sr., promoter and track official Dick Sweet and longtime safety official Don "Had" Hadcock will see their names added to the list of members in the NYSSCA Hall of Fame.

Gates are set to open at 3:30 p.m. with racing starting at 6.
