Anthony J. Stolo Sr.

ONEIDA — Anthony J. Stolo Sr., age 86, formerly of State Rt. 365 passed away late Thursday evening August 2, 2012 in Upstate University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 3, 1926 in Rome, New York a son of the late James and Alvira (Cervo) Stolo and attended Rome Schools.

From 1944-1946 Anthony served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps where he was stationed in the Pacific.

On July 6, 1954 Anthony and Phyllis I. Sorrell were united in marriage in Cherry Valley, New York and shared a loving union of over fifty-three years together until Phyllis’ death on June 20, 2007.

Anthony’s employments included Griffiss Air Force Base, UNIVAC and PAR Technologies where he retired as a computer technician.

In his spare time he enjoyed fixing televisions, listening to music, attending the opera riding motorcycles and gardening. Most importantly in his life was his family and he cherished the times he spent with each of them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Jr. and Christina Stolo of Eaton; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Bernadette and David L. Peck Sr. of Vernon, Marlene and Gari McQuade of Oneida; eleven grandchildren, Lorraine, Timothy, Tamara, Tera, Kristen, David Jr., Donald, Brenda, Crystal, Tasha and Adrienne; ten great-grandchildren, Anthony, Ricky, Rebecca, Brian, Rosalie, Tyler, Riley, Noah, Davin and Angella; three brothers, Ronald (Robin) Stolo of Rome, Robert (Beth) Stolo of Frankfort and James Stolo of Rome; six sisters, Donna (Ray) Adams of Rome, Gloria (Bob) Budlong of Rome, Violet and Paul Finster of Rome, Vera Prather of Rome, Marie Austin of Fla. and Doloretta Lawless of Fla.; also many nieces and nephews.

Anthony was predeceased by his wife, one son James Stolo, one brother Joseph and one sister Rosie.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Vernon. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vernon, New York.
