Remsen’s Family Fun Weekend starts Friday

REMSEN — Summertime Family Fun Weekend starts Friday. The village will host many free events and others for a fee throughout the weekend. People of all ages are welcome.

The weekend will be kicked off on Friday at 7 p.m. with a concert by southern Gospel singer Sherry Anne Lints at the Remsen Performing and Visual Arts Center, 9627 Main St. Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for members, and $4 for students and seniors ages 65 and older.

Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. with a children’s footrace at Remsen school. A parade will follow at 11 a.m. on Main Street and to the Town Park, where there will be a dedication ceremony of the new Veterans’ Memorial Park at noon.

Afternoon events will be held at the Remsen Train Depot, Depot Street, from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be ongoing activities at the depot as well as shows on the railroad flatbed car stage. Bounce houses, children’s games, face painting by CoCo the Clown, a family scavenger hunt and a self-guided bicycle tour of the village will be available. Hot dogs and refreshments will be for sale. Scheduled shows include music by the teen band "Birdseed Bandit" at 1 p.m., entertainment by magician Shawn Robison at 2 p.m., and a children’s concert by singer, songwriter Donna Mucks at 3 p.m.

Saturday evening will feature the 24th annual "CC Bickins Classic Car Show" in the Remsen Town Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Family Fun Weekend will draw to a close on Sunday evening at 7 with a performance by Don Cantwell and the Clef Dwellers at the Remsen Performing and Visual Arts Center. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for members, and $6 for students and seniors ages 65 and older.
