Leonard Arena, 81, of Rome and Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away with his loving family by his side, Monday, July 30, 2012, at Rome Center. He was born in Rome, NY on June 6, 1931, son of the late Frank and Catherine Puccio Arena. He was formerly married to Filomena Gigante Rena. Leonard worked at Griffiss Air Force Base as a certified supervisory engineering technician for 31 years. He also worked as an instructor for New York State DOCS for 12 years before retiring. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Sons of Italy, and Knights of Columbus. Leonard enjoyed Italian food and music, and the special time spent with family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn Finster; a son, Leonard Rena, both of Rome; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters, Maria Barber, and Jennie Daniello, both of Rome; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Rome Center, especially Kathy Tanner, Sue Clark, and Teisha Peck for their care and compassion.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at St. John the Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. where relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St.
