A weekend to remember

Once again thousands enjoyed the Honor America Days parade and Syracuse Symphony pops concert. Combined with the final days of the Boonville-Oneida County Fair, it was quite a weekend in the Rome area, even if Mother Nature wasn’t at her most cooperative.

With over 100 entries, the Honor America Days Committee of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce predicted correctly that the 13-division parade Saturday would be great fun for young and old, with a record number of bands and a wide variety of music.

On Sunday, a day late because of rain, the Syracuse Symphony enthralled those on the lawn of Fort Stanwix National Monument with popular show tunes and marches concluding with a fireworks finale sponsored by Berkshire Bank in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Rome Chamber.

To top things off, the Boonville-Oneida County Fair earned another in a long line of salutes for its dedication to our region’s agricultural heritage. The rides, games, and great food are complemented by the fair’s commitment to the morale of farmers. City dwellers get a better appreciation of agriculture and ag-related industries, thanks to the efforts of the county fair staffers and volunteers.

We tip our hat to all of those who worked so hard to make this past weekend a success.
